Only one U.S.-based YouTube channel got more than two billion monthly views during March. That hub outpaced its competition by appealing to fans of a popular video game.

In addition to gaming, other common themes in our U.S. Top 100 include tool-focused videos and family content.
Chart Toppers
In last month’s U.S. Top 100, Rainbow Friends Fans finished in 13th place. 31 days later, it has shot up to the #1 spot. The Shorts channel, which takes its name from a popular game developed in Roblox, got 375 million views than any other U.S.-based channel during March. Its monthly total topped out at 2.3 billion monthly views. That sum accounts for more than half of Rainbow Friends Fans’ lifetime YouTube viewership. Amazingly, this chart-topper is still in its early days, and it might not be done growing.
The next four channels in the U.S. Top 100 ranked were the top four finishers in February’s monthly chart. MrBeast followed a fourth-place finish by moving up to second place in our ranking of the most-watched American YouTube channels. Jimmy Donaldson continues to produce the biggest spectacles on YouTube while also providing content for the platform’s Shorts community. That approach brought him 1.92 billion monthly views, and his profile is about to get even bigger. We found out this month that Donaldson will bring his brand of content to a Prime Video series.
CoComelon – Nursery Rhymes retained the #3 ranking it earned a month ago. The family-friendly hub owned by Moonbug (which is under the Candle Media banner) has upheld the consistent rate of production that has made it the most-watched U.S.-based YouTube channel of all time. In March, CoComelon picked up 1.8 billion monthly views to bring itself within a stone’s throw of a major milestone. Next month, it will become the first U.S.-based YouTube channel with at least 180 billion lifetime views.
Last month’s first-place claimant fell back to fourth in the latest U.S. Top 100. MaviGadget earned another top-five finish in our monthly ranking by adding 1.71 billion views during March. The Shorts hub is one of several channels that has become a stalwart in our rankings by uploading vertical videos that depict tools and heavy machinery. Thanks to destinations like MaviGadget, Craftsman Vision, and Tool Items, that category has gone from a curiosity to a chart-topping force.
Vlad and Niki rounds out this month’s U.S. Top 100. The family-oriented channel with Russian roots pushed its lifetime view count above 88 billion by scoring 1.7 billion monthly views.
Top Gainers
Knot Master made its first appearance in the U.S. Top 100 in March, and it was knot the channel I expected to see in the ranking. (If you think that’s the last knot pun in this article, well, it’s knot.) Though Knot Master has adopted the practices of top Shorts channels, such as regular uploads and multiformat activity, it has a unique focus. As its name implies, it is the go-to source for anyone who wants to learn complex ways to tie things down.
Regular Knot Master viewers have discovered more than just a few ways to secure their stuff. Sure, the channel covers classic knots like the bowline and the hangman’s noose, but it also goes over tension systems that can be used in tandem with its powerful tie-ups. Its most-watched Shorts upload features a knot used around the world: The trucker’s hitch. Ylvis must be proud.
You might knot think that knots could form the foundation of a chart-topping YouTube channel, but you’d be wrong. Knot Master cracked the U.S. Top 100 after roping in more than 1.5 million subscribers (OK, I think I’ve had my fill now.) Those fans contributed to a 31-day total of 378.8 million monthly views. That put Knot Master in 70th place in the U.S. Top 100, just one spot behind creator Haley Kalil.
I don’t know how long a channel focused on knots can sustain its place in the Top 100, but Knot Master is still relatively new to YouTube Shorts and has plenty of room to grow. As long as it can replicate its success next month, it will push its lifetime YouTube viewership above one billion hits.
Channel Distribution
This month, 72 channels in the Top 100 are primarily active on YouTube Shorts.
