Though YouTube has changed considerably over the past decade, its top categories have remained somewhat consistent. Games, kid-friendly content, and comedy are still major draws on Google’s video platform.
This week, the top five channels in the U.S. Top 50 all have ties to one of those three categories.

In an era defined by specific categories, MrBeast defies expectations. He didn’t release a new video during our most recent seven-day measurement period, but he nevertheless ended up in first place in the U.S. Top 50. Jimmy Donaldson has turned his primary hub into the second-most subscribed YouTube channel in the world by blending entertaining challenges with the style and themes that appeal to the young-skewing YouTube Shorts audience. MrBeast’s deft combination earned him 433 million views during the week that was.
Last week’s #1 fell back to second place in the U.S. Top 50. Even if Rainbow Friends Fans is no longer the leader in our all-American ranking, it is still one of 2024’s most impressive success stories. With a name derived from a Roblox game and a content library filled with Gen Alpha memes, Rainbow Friends Fans has captivated viewers on YouTube Shorts. During the third full week of March, this ascendant hub kept up the pace by reeling in 418.2 million weekly views.
The third-place finisher in the U.S. Top 50 has an interesting thing in common with Rainbow Friends Fans. It too has a three-word name comprised entirely of common nouns. Family Games Media‘s moniker references three of the hottest keywords on YouTube Shorts, so it’s not too surprising that this short-form hub ranks as one of the most popular U.S.-based channels. Family Games Media reached #3 during a week when it added 336.9 million views to its lifetime total.
Alan Chikin Chow is sitting in fourth place in the U.S. Top 50. Chow, a funnyman based in California, has developed a reputation as one of the most methodical and strategic creators in the Shorts universe. His foresight is so great that he even started preparing for a potential TikTok ban years before it was seriously considered. Chow doesn’t have to rely on TikTok thanks to his Shorts prowess. His primary YouTube channel pulled in 333.4 million weekly views during our most recent measurement period.
Toys and Colors rounds out this week’s U.S. top five. The kid-friendly hub used its typical array of bright characters and educational lessons to get 333.1 million weekly views.

The content creator lifestyle has been a roller coaster ride for The Stokes Twins. Identical twin brothers Alan and Alex Stokes have scored massive brand deals while also running into legal trouble thanks to one of their pranks.
That episode occurred in 2020, but these days, The Stokes Twins are on the upswing, at least as far as their joint YouTube channel is concerned. The hub shared by Alan and Alex just broke into the top ten in the U.S. Top 50; during the third full week of March, it peaked at 9th place with 250.9 million weekly views. That sum brought The Stokes Twins’ lifetime YouTube viewership above six billion hits.
So what are the Stokes Twins up to these days? As you might expect, they’ve gotten big into Shorts, where their challenges and experiments routinely roll up nine-digit view counts. But Alan and Alex haven’t given up on long-form content. In fact, they are utilizing the multiformat approach YouTube loves to promote. Their 25-minute videos wouldn’t look out of place on Ryan Trahan’s channel, because like Trahan, The Stokes Twins love buying random stuff from the internet.
Some of The Stokes Twins’ long-form uploads have attained more than ten million views. Their list of most-watched videos includes a long-form exploration of school lunches around the world, which arrived on their YouTube channel about a month ago.
These recent uploads show that The Stokes Twins are paying attention to the trends set by chart toppers like MrBeast. Their latest renaissance on YouTube may not have reached its high point just yet; perhaps they’ll be able to break into the U.S. top five next week.
Channel Distribution
