17 months after suffering a mental health crisis, Gabbie Hanna reappears as a YMCA instructor

Gabbie Hanna‘s roller-coaster career has taken her back to her hometown. Nearly a year after she ceased all activity on her TikTok account, Hanna has taken a job as a fitness instructor at the Lawrence County YMCA in New Castle, Pennsylvania.

Hanna revealed her employment at the Lawrence County YMCA by appearing in a December 2023 post on the fitness center’s Instagram account. According to the post, the one-time TikTok star is teaching Zumba, ballet, and breathwork classes.

More recently, Hanna advertised her slate of classes in a brief Instagram video. “My name’s Gabbie and I’m your new instructor at the Lawrence County YMCA,” Hanna says in the video. “I can’t even tell my thighs are burning because I’m having so much fun and looking so good doing it.”

Hanna’s success on Vine and TikTok — she still counts 7.9 million followers on the latter platform even though it’s been months since her last post — Hanna established herself as a rising star. She parlayed her internet fame into a book deal, a music career, and a handful of scripted content ventures.

In 2022, however, Hanna took a turn for the worse. In August of that year, she uploaded hundreds of bizarre, disturbing videos, which led to widespread concern for her mental health. As her crisis wore on in the public eye, viewers called on TikTok to intervene, but Hanna continued to post for months before going quiet on social media.

Since reemerging as a YMCA instructor, Hanna looks much healthier than she did during that disturbing period. Several creators have publicly praised the New Castle native. “#GabbieHanna got home, got healthy, and got happy,” gossipmonger Perez Hilton wrote on X. “She’s living a semi-private life now.”

Maria McKee, the CEO of the Lawrence County YMCA, told Business Insider that Hanna is a welcome addition to the center’s staff. “We work side by side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone — regardless of age, income or background has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive,” McKee said. “We are delighted to have Gabbie as a member of our team, bringing her passion for wellness to help others achieve their best selves.”

New Castle is located in Western Pennsylvania. If you find yourself in the Pittsburgh area, the YMCA’s newest instructor seems eager to guide you toward your fitness goals.
