Mythical gets a new COO, names Brian Flanagan president

Rhett & Link‘s Mythical Entertainment has tapped Westbrook general manager Jacob Moncrief as its new COO, and has named former COO Brian Flanagan president.

Flanagan, who joined Mythical in 2016 and was its first COO, will “remain closely involved in all aspects of the core operating business” as president, but will “increase his focus” on Mythical’s long-term goal of being a household name, the company says.

He’ll be spearheading things like Mythical’s “content-commerce-community flywheel,” investment in up-and-coming creators via its $5 million creator accelerator, and its overall global growth strat.

In a statement, Flanagan said this expansion of Mythical’s executive team “signals our ambition to be the definitive television studio for the internet generation.” He added that Moncrief is “a producer and operator of the highest order and we are lucky to have his many talents powering our growth.”

Moncrief is no stranger to Mythical. He was with the company from 2017 to 2021, most recently as SVP of production & operations, before joining Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith‘s Westbrook. As Westbrook’s general manager, he oversaw all aspects of operations, production and post-production, finance, and people management across digital, unscripted, and branded shows, including Off the Leash with Megan Thee Stallion

on Snapchat, Post Malone’s Twelve Carat Toothache on Meta, and Will Smith’s Class of ’88 on Audible.

In his new role as Mythical’s COO, Moncrief will oversee content production and post-production, distribution, production finance, branded entertainment, office operations, business affairs, and HR. He’ll report directly to Rhett & Link, along with Flanagan and chief creative officer Stevie Wynne Levine.

“Returning to Mythical in this expanded role is an exciting homecoming. Rhett & Link have created a truly special business, where creativity, excellence, and kindness can all flourish simultaneously,” Moncrief said in a statement. “I look forward to collaborating with Brian, Stevie, and the entire Mythical team to drive continued innovation and success in content, partnerships, and experiences.”

Rhett & Link added, “Mythical is a people-driven business, and to achieve the vast ambitions we’ve set for ourselves 2024 and beyond, we knew we should invest in the very best. Brian, Jacob, and Stevie bring decades of experience, complementary skills and relationships, and abundant creative energy to Mythical. Together, they’ll lead the sharpest young executive team in the media business to unprecedented success.”
