Chart Toppers
T-Series finished in second place in each of the first four worldwide charts we posted in October. In the final ranking of the month, the Indian record label ended MrBeast’s run at the top of the heap. By collecting 571.5 million weekly views, T-Series returned to the chart position it has occupied more often than any other channel. Its lifetime view and subscriber totals — 236.5 billion and 252 million, respectively — are both YouTube-leading totals as well. One of those records could be in jeopardy, since MrBeast is now within 50 million subscribers of T-Series (and still gaining).
For the first time in 2023, Toys and Colors has hit the #2 spot in the Global Top 50. The U.S.-based channel got more weekly views than everyone else (except T-Series) by combining age-appropriate long-form videos with an increasing number of Shorts uploads. That proved to be a winning mix for Toys and Colors, which added 529 million weekly views. If the kid-friendly hub can continue increasing its YouTube traffic, it has a chance to reach 50 million subscribers before the end of 2023.
Another family-oriented channel reached third place in the latest Global Top 50. The popular young influencer known as Nastya brought 420.4 million views to her primary Like Nastya channel during the week that was. Nastya outpaced rivals like Vlad and Niki (#8 in the Global Top 50) and Kids Diana Show (#9) to rank ahead of all children’s channels other than Toys and Colors. Nastya’s latest surge of viewership pushed her primary channel past 94 billion lifetime views on YouTube.
KL BRO Biju Rithvik nearly took third place itself, but the Indian family hub finished just short of Like Nastya. KL BRO gets millions of views on cute short-form videos and millions more on long-form compilations that feature those Shorts. You would think that a channel utilizing a regional Indian language has a cap on the size of its audience, but no language barrier has stopped KL BRO so far. It added 411.2 million weekly views to bring its lifetime YouTube total above 25 billion.
Filmy Suraj Actor rounds out this week’s global top five. It’s the first top-five appearance for the Indian Shorts creator, who moved up seven spots after reeling in 387.7 million weekly views.
Top Gainers
Russian creators are turning to their country’s cultural traditions to find inspiration for YouTube Shorts videos. We’ve already discussed the strategies Yana Chirkina has used to turn her dance background into a short-form niche. Now it’s time to talk about the ice skaters.
Specifically, we’re taking a look at V.A. Show, a Russia-based channel that attempts to make its brand of “magic” on ice. Many of its most-watched YouTube Shorts uploads are challenge videos that ask participants to perform figure skating moves. If you can pull off a spin on the ice or make it through a noodle gauntlet, then you have what it takes to pass V.A. Show’s test. The channel’s #1 Short, with 230 million views, prompts skaters to perform jumps.
Not all of V.A. Show’s YouTube Shorts videos involve ice skating, but that seems to be the topic that most interests the channel’s viewers. During the last full week of October, V.A. Show added a variety of new videos and picked up 204.3 million weekly views along the way. That was twice as much traffic as the total it pulled in during the previous week, and as a result, V.A. Show moved from 195th place in our worldwide ranking all the way up to 38th.
It seems that there’s a hungry audience of figure skating fans on Shorts, and they’re eager to check out challenges from the world of their favorite sport. I’d join the fun myself, but I have to learn how to stand up straight on skates first.
