This week, an international cavalcade of channels ruled our Global Top 50. For the first time all year, the five most-watched YouTube channels of the week included zero U.S.-based hubs.

The #1 channel, a newcomer to the top spot, exemplifies the increasing globalization of online video.
Chart Toppers
Take a bow, StarPlus. The Indian channel got the most YouTube views in the world during the second full week of August. The home for local TV content recorded its first #1 finish of 2023 thanks to the 647.4 million weekly views it hauled in over a seven-day span. If StarPlus can keep up its moment over the next two weeks, it will reach 30 billion lifetime views before the start of September. That’s the power of the South Asian community on the world’s leading video site.
The #2 channel in the Global Top 50 has a lot in common with StarPlus. T-Series is also based in India, is also focused on entertainment, and is also a longtime entrant in our Tubefilter charts. That’s where the similarities end. While StarPlus sports an eight-digit lifetime view count, T-Series is the most-watched channel in YouTube history, with 230 billion lifetime views. And while a top-two finish for StarPlus is notable, T-Series’ runner-up placement is just another day at the office. The Indian channel registered 521.4 million weekly views in our latest count.
It’s a clean sweep of Indian channels in the top three. KL BRO Biju Rithvik completed the trifecta by pulling in 511.7 million weekly views. While the channels ahead of it in the chart are known for Hindi-language content, KL BRO Biju Rithvik serves speakers of Malayalam, one of India’s many regional languages. Thanks to those viewers and many more, this family-friendly hub ranked higher than any other YouTube Shorts channel in the Global Top 50.
Another short-form channel ranked fourth in the latest Global Top 50. Celine Dept has taken advantage of World Cup fever to put together a string of strong chart performances. The soccer-focused creator reached her all-time highest placement after notching 495.6 million weekly views. She now has nearly four billion lifetime YouTube views, and with domestic soccer leagues starting their seasons, that number will only go up.
Tarik Alhalapi ranked fifth in this week’s Global Top 50. The Turkish creator rode his short-form star power to a top-five finish. He received 457.3 million weekly views.
Top Gainers
Family content on YouTube Shorts is a mixed bag. There’s plenty of weird content out there that might not be intended for kids, but many of them watch regardless. For an honest and clean family creator, breaking into the short-form game can be difficult. It requires a balance between shock value and upstanding morals — something that doesn’t come easily.
Yoshipapa has managed to find that balance. The Japanese creator is a family man who stars alongside his children in short-form videos. There’s nothing in these clips that would scare away parents, and Yoshipapa typically greets the camera with a bright smile. At the same time, there’s a fair amount of farting and pooping in his videos. After all, toilet humor gets views.
There’s an added bonus for Yoshipapa viewers: Not only do they get entertained, but they also learn how to become a better parent in the process. Kidnapper coming for your baby? Just use a decoy. Need to heal a wound? Press on it as hard as you can. Trying to chase down your tyke for a diaper change? You may want to put on your running shoes (and hold your nose).
These cute videos (and the life lessons that come with them) are doing huge numbers for Yoshipapa and his family. The Japan-based channel collected 290.7 million weekly views to reach 30th place in the Global Top 50. That total represented a 34% week-over-week viewership increase, which allowed Yoshipapa to move up 24 spots in the chart.
I’m happy to see that success. After all the “skibidi toilet” business, it’s nice to see a family man strike it big.
