It’s a period of big swings in our U.S. Top 50 ranking. The five U.S.-based YouTube channels that got the most views during the first week of August all experienced double-digit week-over-week percentage changes.

That reshuffling has brought a longtime Top 50 regular back to the front of the U.S. chart.
Chart Toppers
CoComelon – Nursery Rhymes started 2023 with a four-month streak of #1 finishes in the U.S. Top 50. As the skibidi toilet meme took YouTube by storm, several short-form channels kept CoComelon out of the top spot for weeks. As the calendar turns over to August, CoComelon is ahead of the pack once again. The Moonbug-owned family channel added another U.S. #1 to its collection after receiving 478.2 million weekly views. By keeping up with chart leaders in an era defined by short-form viewership, CoComelon is showing just how ubiquitous it’s become among YouTube’s youngest viewers.
Speaking of skibidi toilet, the channel behind that meme ranked second in the latest U.S. Top 50. DaFuq!?Boom! continues to live up to its incredulous name by sharing videos that depict heads popping out of toilets. The channel’s animated library received 472.5 million weekly views during our most recent measurement period. As long as DaFuq!?Boom! keeps up its current pace (and it increased its traffic 17% week-over-week), it will reach ten billion lifetime YouTube views before the end of the summer.
MaviGadget earned two #1 finishes in July, but it started the next month by falling out of the top spot and dropping down to third. The YouTube Shorts channel collected 385.1 million weekly views even though it lost 17% of its YouTube traffic week-over-week. Despite that dip, MaviGadget is poised to hang near the top of our U.S. chart. The Shorts audience has displayed a strong appetite for videos that show the inner workings of machines.
Alan Chikin Chow laughed his way to the #4 spot in this week’s U.S. Top 50. Chow, like the three channels above him, has reached #1 in past Top 50s. By honing the comedic timing of his short-form clips, Chow continues to grow the size of his subscriber base. He now reaches 27 million subscribers, and he picked up 370.1 million views during the week that was. That total was good for a 28% week-over-week increase.
Another big increase came in the #5 spot, where WeStarMoney Records rode a 68% week-over-week bump to an all-time high finish. The short-form channel earned 319.7 million weekly views.
Top Gainers
Myke Towers is having a moment. The Puerto Rican rapper, who just announced a U.S. tour to accompany his new album, has become an in-demand Latin artist.
But if you examine the most-watched videos on Towers’ official YouTube channel, you won’t see snippets of his music videos. You might not even see Towers himself. What you will see is soccer, and lots of it. Like other pop stars, Towers is promoting his new music by adding it as a soundtrack for preexisting videos. In particular, he’s uploaded several viral clips that take place on the pitch.
Like Celine Dept, Towers is taking advantage of the football fever that has gripped YouTube Shorts during the first weeks of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. By depicting some of the most famous names in the men’s game, Towers (who is a soccer fan himself) is getting some nice publicity for his fresh music.
With his soccer-style promotion, Towers has definitely achieved his goal. During the first week of August, he received record-high viewership on his YouTube Shorts by adding 176.4 million weekly views. That 18% week-over-week increase was strong enough to push Towers into 26th place in the U.S. Top 50.
Getting a lift from assorted soccer videos may seem like a cop-out for an international rap hitmaker. But Towers is known for his work as a collaborator — he merely found a new way to do it.
