86% of creators believe AI has a positive effect on creativity. ChatGPT offered its own opinions.

The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) assistants is sending ripples across the creator economy. A recent study published by Lightricks in partnership with YouGov asked creators to share their favorite uses for AI. Meanwhile, on YouTube, OpenAI‘s ChatGPT bot discussed its own ascendance in the latest episode of Wired‘s Autocomplete Interview series.

The Lightricks report surveyed 1,000 aspiring and professional creators, who dished on topics like monetization, production, and brand partnerships. As they considered all of those subjects, the surveyed creators weighed in on the ways AI will enhance their creative careers. 86% of professional creators said that AI positively impacts their creative process, and 71% of respondents said that their fans have reacted positively to AI-driven content.

Though the tool-building company offered a primarily positive spin on AI, it also registered the most common creator fears related to emerging technology. Among online video professionals, the rise of deepfakes is a major problem, with 74% of those respondents describing that issue as their biggest AI-related concern.

When it comes to AI, there are still many kinks to work out, but the creators surveyed by Lightricks see programs like ChatGPT as potential assets — and that’s exactly how ChatGPT sees itself, too. As part of its Autocomplete Interview, the OpenAI program discussed (through a text-to-speech transcription) how its rise will affect the future job market.

“ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence systems have the potential to automate certain tasks and replace some jobs in the future,” reads the bot’s response. “However, it’s important to note that AI is not a replacement for all jobs and will likely create new opportunities and job roles in fields related to AI development and implementation.”

Artificial intelligence remains an imperfect system, but that’s not stopping tech companies from making big investments in AI-driven solutions. In recent months, social platforms like Snapchat and TikTok have introduced virtual assistants that resemble ChatGPT in form and function.
