Pinterest is expanding its creator fund to five new countries.
The fund launched in 2021 and has doled out hundreds of thousands of dollars to dozens of fashion, beauty, wellness, lifestyle, and food creators from the U.S., U.K., and Brazil. It operates on a quarterly cycle, bringing new creators in every three months and giving them lump sums of cash plus mentoring.
This new expansion will open the fund to creators in Canada, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and France, with an overall goal of “elevat[ing] Creators from historically marginalized communities through financial and educational support,” Pinterest says.
“Our mission is to bring everyone the inspiration to create a life they love, and inspiration is fueled by diversity of experiences, perspectives and communities,” Zeny Shifferaw, Pinterest’s Creator Inclusion Lead, said in a statement. “Expanding this program will unlock more opportunities for disproportionately underrepresented creators and content producers to gain financial support, exposure, resources and reach new audiences looking to be inspired by their passions on our platform.”
Pinterest also announced the fund’s first North American cycle of 2023. This cycle will be open to creators from the U.S. and Canada, and will focus on sustainability, “since people on Pinterest are actively looking for ways to be more eco-conscious,” per Pinterest.
Creators approved for the cycle will create a variety of content (including Pins and Pinterest boards) on themes like upcycling, foraging, farming, thrifting, and gardening. Independent publishers, digital magazines, and content collectives are also eligible to apply for participation.
Applications are open here from April 4 through April 13.
Pinterest says fund cycles will open in the U.K., Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and France later this year.
