A Trans Day of Visibility campaign has raised $2.2 million for gender-affirming healthcare

On Trans Day of Visibility, two TikTok stars set out to raise $1 million to support gender-affirming healthcare. Five days after launching their campaign, the TikTokers have exceeded their goal more than two times over. At the time of this post, their fundraising total is over $2.2 million.

The fundraiser, dubbed the 2nd Annual TikTok-a-Thon for Trans Healthcare, is led by “Trans Handy Ma’am” Mercury Stardust and her co-host AlluringSkull. Stardust started her Trans Day of Visibility campaign last year, when she attempted to raise $24,000 for the nonprofit organization Point of Pride. Stardust’s supporters blew that goal out of the water by donating $120,000 to support Point of Pride’s healthcare efforts in the trans community.

Stardust brought back the TikTok-a-Thon for 2023, and her fundraiser exceeded expectations once again. She and AlluringSkull (whose real name is Jory) planned to host a 30-hour stream in hopes of collecting $1 million for Point of Pride. The two creators reached their seven-digit goal in just six hours, and the donations kept rolling in.

By breaking the $2.2 million mark, Stardust and AlluringSkull will be able to provide staffing and infrastructure support for Point of Pride, and they’ll also be able to pay for their own gender-affirming surgeries. As the duo’s fundraising total ticked up, AlluringSkull took to TikTok to celebrate.

“We believe that this is a really important time to do this work because of the anti-trans laws that have been pushed around in the country and have terrified the trans community,” Stardust told The Cap Times. “In a time that often feels like it is hard for us to even exist publicly, it’s nice to have a refreshing moment of hope.”

Both Stardust and AlluringSkull reach millions of fans on TikTok. Stardust entertains 2.3 million followers with videos that often reference her work as a Handy Ma’am. AlluringSkull’s 2.3 million followers tune in to watch her brand of trans advocacy. If you’d like to help them support gender-affirming care, there’s still time to contribute to the TikTok-a-Thon. More details about the initiative can be found on the Point of Pride website.
