VidCon adds a second event in Baltimore for 2023

VidCon is coming to the East Coast.

The long-running digital video convention will hold its 12th annual event next June in Anahaim, its usual locale. But not long after, from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, 2023, it’ll hold the first ever VidCon Baltimore.

“We are thrilled to bring VidCon to the east coast for the first time in 2023, allowing us to bring our unique and interactive in-person experience to even more people in the US,” Sarah Tortoreti, senior vice president of marketing and communications at VidCon, said in a statement. “Adding Baltimore to our slate allows us to spread the magic of online creators to new audiences that will be inspired and informed through fun and interactive experiences and engaging programming.”

VidCon Baltimore will be held at the Baltimore Convention Center, and will include similar content to the flagship Anaheim event, including separate Community and Industry programming tracks, meet-and-greets with featured creators, panels, and live performances.

The convention will be produced by recently promoted executive producer Fiona Ridgway, who previously served as executive producer of VidCon Now (which started as a virtual, COVID-time version of VidCon and has evolved into an ongoing education-focused offering). Ridgway also served as expo hall manager for VidCon in Anaheim.

While this is the first time VidCon has planned a U.S. event outside of Anaheim, it’s not the first expansion of VidCon overall. It’s held events in Amsterdam and London, ran the first VidCon Australia in 2017 and the first VidCon Asia in 2019, and debuted VidCon Abu Dhabi in 2021. It ran the first VidCon Mexico this past weekend (attended by 14,000 people), and is holding a São Paulo event in July 2023.

“Expansion continues to be a key priority for the VidCon brand,” VidCon says.

VidCon’s 2022 Anaheim convention brought 50,000 attendees and 640,000 livestream viewers, it says. VidCon Baltimore will operate with a similar hybrid strategy—those who can’t attend in person will be able to tune in to programming via livestream.

Tickets for VidCon Baltimore go on sale April 11, 2023.
