A K-pop group is breaking records with an eclectic new music video. YouTube Shorts creators are hauling in millions of views with short-form videos. And all of these trendsetters are trying to catch up with the Indian channels at the top of the chart.
Chart Toppers
SET India captured the #1 position in our Global Top 50 for the third week in a row. The South Asian TV network, which has experienced long-term success on YouTube by sharing snippets of its shows, added another 622.5 million weekly views to its lifetime total during the third week of August. The Sony-owned hub was the only YouTube channel to record at least 600 million views this week, and it continues to build an archive of viral videos. 116 of its clips have pulled in at least 50 million views on YouTube.
T-Series came in second place behind its compatriot for the third week in a row. The Indian record label rarely falls lower than second place, and its current position is even a bit of an anomaly. Its 593 million weekly views weren’t quite enough to match the pace it set in June, but it’s approaching a major milestone. Next week, we expect T-Series to get its 200 billionth view on its primary YouTube channel.
Third place in the Global Top 50 went to Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes. The U.S.-based animation hub earned 565 million views during the week that was. That figure represented a slight increase over Cocomelon’s previous weekly total, and thanks to its continued success on YouTube, the California-based operation is still the most-watched U.S.-based channel in the world.
Another U.S.-based channel followed right behind Cocomelon in this week’s Global Top 50. LeoNata Family was able to pick up 514.5 million weekly views to slot into the #4 position for the second straight week. The short-form channel has experienced extraordinary growth since posting its first YouTube Shorts clip less than a year ago. Since then, it has received 13.7 billion lifetime views.
Sony SAB rounds out this week’s global top five. The sister channel of SET India scooped up 417.9 million weekly views.

Question: What do you get when you combine a traditional Korean instrument called a gayageum, a wobbly bassline, and a West Coast-style rap breakdown?
Answer: Blackpink‘s latest single, ‘Pink Venom.’
The K-pop group — consisting of members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa — just delivered YouTube’s biggest music video premiere of 2022. And that’s not the only record ‘Pink Venom’ broke. Thanks to the song’s success, Blackpink reached 7th place in our Global Top 50, which is the highest chart position achieved by a musical group this year.
In total, Blackpink counted 377.8 million weekly views during our latest seven-day measurement period, and it has more than 25 billion lifetime views in all. Last week, the K-pop group’s channel fell outside the Top 50, so that tells you the impact ‘Pink Venom’ has had.
Blackpink has been bagging billion-view music videos since the pre-Shorts days, but YouTube’s TikTok competitor helped the foursome’s latest single strike paydirt. The #PinkVenomChallenge invites viewers to put their twists on the new video by uploading YouTube Shorts clips inspired by the Blackpink’s dance moves. Submissions to the challenge are currently being accepted, so Blackpink’s time on the Global Top 50 may not be done.
