Chart Toppers
Did you guess T-Series? If so, you’re correct.
The Indian record label continued its winning streak in our Global Top 50. There wasn’t a single week in February when it didn’t occupy the #1 spot in our worldwide chart. It even increased its traffic by 6% this week, topping out at 874.5 million weekly views.
The channel that followed behind T-Series for much of February maintained its runner-up status in the final week of the month. SET India finished #2 in the Global Top 50 after it earned 640.2 million weekly views during our most-recent measurement period. That’s a lot of people tuning into shows like Indian Idol and India’s Got Talent.
The highest-ranking U.S.-based channel in the current Global Top 50 was also the highest-ranking American channel last week, and the week before that, and the week before that. Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes continues to wow YouTube’s youngest set with its colorful animated creations. At the end of February, it pulled in 572 million weekly views to keep its perch at #3.
The first change in our global top five comes in the #4 spot. Like Nastya, which was just outside of the top five a week ago, moved up two spots after seeing its traffic increase by 38% week over week. The family vlog, which has roots in Eastern Europe but a home in the U.S., counted 552.5 million weekly views, pushing it above the half-billion view benchmark.
Kids Diana Show rounded out our global top five for the second straight week. The home of the titular, Ukraine-born kidfluencer added 458.4 million weekly views in our latest tally.
Top Gainers
Many news channels saw dramatic increases in their YouTube viewership this week. The cause of that uptick is clear: Viewers are tuning in to learn the latest updates from the war in Ukraine.
That war has resulted in numerous sanctions against Russia; YouTube, for its part, has disabled monetization on Russian state media channels, but that hasn’t stopped those channels from generating tons of traffic.
Россия 24, a.k.a. Russia 24, is a public broadcasting service based in Moscow. In our latest Global Top 50, Russia 24 reached a high chart position, topping out in 10th place. By reeling in 298 million weekly views, the station increased its YouTube viewership nearly four times over.
A video responsible for more than six million of those views is Vladimir Putin’s address to the Russian people. In addition to its big viewership, the video has also received more than 40,000 comments. It is unavailable for embed, but can be viewed here.
In case you’re wondering what Slavic civilians think of all this violence, the top comment on this video has more than 11,000 likes and translates as follows:
“The people of Ukraine are against the war. Peaceful sky between Ukraine and Russia. Peace and only peace we need.”
Now we just need Putin to see that message.
