The YouTube Shorts platform continues to have a major impact on our U.S. top 50 ranking.
In the latest edition of our U.S. chart, the usual leader has been displaced by a channel that releases both long-form and short-form videos. That two-pronged content strategy is proving to be a powerful combination, especially for channels that appeal to young children.
LankyBox exemplifies a number of trends that have come to define our U.S. top 50 over the past few years. The gaming channel, which also delivers comedy sketches and reactions to its audience of more than nine million subscribers, appeals to young viewers while also mixing up its video lengths and incorporating hit franchises like Roblox. The result, in our latest count, is 544.4 million weekly views, which was a high enough figure to lead all U.S.-based channels.
Second place in this week’s U.S. chart went to Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes. The musical and colorful content hub picked up 536.8 million weekly views, which allowed its lifetime viewership to surpass 105 billion total views. The only other channel in this week’s U.S. top five to boast even half as much lifetime viewership is Kids Diana Show. The family vlog, which is of Ukranian origin, moved up to third place in the U.S. this week thanks to its 350 million weekly views.
Another family vlog, Vlad and Niki, earned a fourth-place finish in our latest star-spangled ranking. The Florida-based hub, led by its two titular boys, registered 301.4 million weekly views over seven days. That figure was slightly higher than the one posted by DEAMO, which rounded out this week’s U.S. top five and is a newcomer to this echelon of the U.S. chart. DEAMO brings family-oriented videos to the YouTube Shorts platform, where (as we have learned) such content tends to perform well.
Let’s get real for a minute: It’s been hot out there, and we could all use a nice cold beverage.
The second week of July has been sweltering across many regions of the United States, and one channel that has benefitted from that sweltering weather is The Clay by CHC. The TikTok-style channel is a mixologist’s dream; its short-form videos offer cocktail recipes and tips for adding style to your at-home bartending.
Like with many channels that rely on YouTube Shorts for viewership, The Clay by CHC mostly posts videos that feature the same title — in this case, “Simple drink to make at home.” Those beverages are delivered by a host who shakes ’em up with the panache of a flair bartender and the precision of a high-end cocktail artist. Oftentimes, the glasses being used to serve the drinks are as impressive as the drinks themselves. This carefully-etched ice concoction has picked up more than 45 million YouTube views so far:
The past week has been particularly kind to The Clay By CHC, at least as far as its YouTube viewership is concerned. Its 124 million weekly views were more than twice what it picked up the week before, and behind the strength of that figure, the mixology channel reached 24th place among U.S.-based channels. There may be other TikTok-style channels that are posting even greater numbers on YouTube, but I guarantee that none of those other upstarts are offering refreshments that look this enticing.
