Instagram To Share New Metrics Surrounding ‘Reels’, Livestreaming Products

Instagram is giving creators and businesses access to new analytics with respect to two key video products: Reels and Live broadcasts.

The stats will live within the Insights tab, which is only available to users with creator or business accounts — though such accounts are available to anyone, and simply mark a different format than standard, personal accounts. Insights are also only available on the mobile app, though Instagram says they will soon roll out on the desktop app as well.

For its TikTok copycat Reels, Instagram will now furnish six total metrics: plays, accounts reached, likes, comments, saves, and shares. For Live, it will display accounts reached, peak concurrent viewers, comments, and shares. Furthermore, all of these metrics will be incorporated into overarching Insights to give a broader picture of their impact on a creator or business’ Instagram presence over time.

Insights already furnished info about an account’s followers, grid posts, Stories, IGTV videos, and any paid activity.

Other updates to Insights include more detailed information in the ‘reach’ section, including breakdowns of the type of accounts being reached and which content formats are the most effective in expanding reach. And in coming months, Instagram will roll out new preset time frame options, enabling creators to examine metrics in increments beyond the last seven or 30 days (which are the two existing options).

In January, Instagram unveiled Professional Dashboards — a central hub where creators and businesses can track performance and discover other professional tools.
