After a children’s animation studio spent a few months dominating our global Top 50, an Indian entertainment stalwart eclipsed it last week. Now, those two channels are neck-and-neck at the top of our worldwide ranking, with a significant viewership difference separating them from all the other channels on YouTube.
T-Series the most viewed YouTube channel of the week once again. The Indian hub, known for its Bollywood clips and other artful videos, received 831.3 million views over the past seven days. Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes, which until recently was the only channel to secure a ten-digit weekly view count, has since fell off a bit. In the most recent chart, it picked 823.8 million views, just a few ticks below T-Series.
The 7.45 million views separating the top two channels in our chart may seem like a vast gulf, but with numbers this large, it’s a minuscule margin. To put it in perspective, it could be multiplied 24 times over and it would still be smaller than the viewership separating Cocomelon from the #3 channel in the ranking, Kids Diana Show. That US-based family vlog earned 644.9 million views this week.
The next two spots in the chart remained unchanged from the previous week, with two more American channels aimed at young viewers rounding out the top five. Like Nastya finished fourth after a week in which it received 525.1 million views, while Vlad and Niki secured the #5 spot after picking up 497.5 million weekly views.
SET India once again reached the top ten in our global chart, but it was not the only Sony-run channel to make waves this week. The final spot in the top 50 went to the official YouTube home of PlayStation, which 107.8 million views during a week in which it served up copious details about the upcoming PS5 console.
Much of the hubbub surrounding the PS5 has centered on its strange design, which has been savaged by critics on Twitter. Among other comparisons, meme makers have likened the console to an electric toothbrush, a pair of Pringles, and Yu-Gi-Oh! bad boy Seto Kaiba. If Sony wants to celebrate some good news, they can point to their YouTube viewership, which increased tenfold over last week’s total.
The most popular video among content related to the PS5 announcement has been the console’s announcement trailer, which has already surpassed 22 million total views. That’s still about 16 million hits short of the PlayStation channel’s all-time most-viewed video, which announced its previous console, the PS4, seven years ago.
