Shane Dawson Drops Trailer For ‘The Beautiful World Of Jeffree Star,’ Teasing A Series About Them Both

Shane Dawson has dropped the trailer for his long-awaited second docuseries with beauty creator Jeffree Star.

The four-minute tease for The Beautiful World of Jeffree Star — which is set to the entirety of singer-songwriter Catie Turner’s melancholy tune “Prom Queen” — is currently No. 1 on trending and has netted more than one million views in less than five hours. It reveals the series will follow Star’s growing beauty product/merch empire and Dawson’s nascent makeup explorations, delve into their personal lives, and chronicle the personal and industry-wide drama and controversies they’ve each faced over the past year.

The duo’s first series, The Secret World of Jeffree Star, debuted last year and has since netted a total of 107M views across its three parts. Dawson (who has 22.3M subscribers on YouTube) and Star (16M) first teased a second collaboration last December, after Dawson concluded The Mind of Jake Paul. At the time, Star promised it’d be “a new series that’s never been done before.”

What exactly that means hasn’t been revealed, but it’s clear from the trailer that this series has a more collaborative feel about it, with Dawson’s own forays into makeup and proposal to longtime boyfriend Ryland Adams taking some spotlight alongside Star’s endeavors. It’s about both Star and Dawson, whereas Dawson’s previous series about Paul, Tana Mongeau

, and Star himself were primarily positioned as explorations of the subjects.

As for the controversies it’ll address, shots from the trailer show The Beautiful World of Jeffree Star will feature this summer’s explosive feud between fellow beauty creators James Charles and Tati Westbrook. In May, the latter released a 43-minute video detailing significant career help she’d given Charles for seemingly little reciprocation. She also accused Charles of trying to pressure men into relationships with him. As a result, Star removed Charles’ Sisters Apparel products from his company Killer Merch, and apparently cut personal ties with him.

The trailer also briefly highlights the hashtag #ShaneDawsonIsOverParty, which trended this summer after a several-years-old podcast clip revealed he’d made deadpan comments about having sexual intercourse with his cat. Dawson apologized for the comments shortly after the clip surfaced, saying the story was “fake and was based on a dumb awful sketch idea I had years ago that I never made (THANK GOD).”

It’s not yet clear how many parts the docuseries will be, but Dawson did reveal the first part will drop on his channel Oct. 1.
