Time magazine has unveiled today its fifth annual round-up of the 25 Most Influential People on the Internet — and, unsurprisingly, it’s chock full of YouTube stars.
This year’s list, which Time says it ascertained by looking at global social media impact as well as the “overall ability to drive news,” includes Liza Koshy, James Charles, Germán Garmendia, Jojo Siwa, Benjamin ‘DrLupo’ Lupo, and Emma Chamberlain.
The storied publisher applauded Koshy for hosting Vogue’s Met Gala red carpet and her upcoming role in an Alicia Keys-produced film, while it acknowledged that Charles has had a tumultuous year but was bouncing back after the uproarious dissolution of his friendship with former mentor Tati Westbrook. Time notes that Garmendia, who is the world’s most popular Spanish-language YouTuber, released his debut novel last year, and reports that the hair bows that Siwa has made famous became so popular across the pond that they have been banned from several schools in Great Britain.
Finally, Time recognized charitable gamer DrLupo, who was also recently named St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s first-ever Creator of the Year. And it called out Chamberlain for her pioneering editing style; the 18-year-old has said that she can spend up to 30 hours on a single video.
Other figures recognized this year include Brian Kolfage, who crowdfunded $25 million to construct President Donald Trump’s southern border wall on GoFundMe, World Record Egg creator Chris Godfrey, Vox journalist Carlos Maza, and Red Table Talk host Jada Pinkett Smith.
