YouTuber Hannah Hart, who rose to foodie fame thanks to her getting-sauced-and-talking-sauces series My Drunk Kitchen, stars in the latest episode of Food Interrupted, a new series about transparency in the food industry from content studio SoulPancake.
Dropped this week, Hart’s episode, presented by Panera Bread, follows her as she investigates the world of egg production, revealing that in the U.S., a lack of federal guidelines for what constitutes an egg means national restaurant chains can serve eggs — or, more accurately, “egg products” — that contain up to 16 ingredients. Hart spotlights organic farmer Jose ‘Luis’ Jaime in her search for the perfect egg — which, of course, has just one ingredient.
Each episode of Food Interrupted pairs a celebrity foodie or chef with what SoulPancake calls the “everyday heroes fighting on the front lines” of food production, from farmers like Jaime to elementary school lunch ladies.
Two other episodes are currently available: “Plants Interrupted,” featuring chef Kevin Curry (who runs the Fit Men Cook YouTube channel, with nearly half a million subscribers) and cookbook author Rip Esselstyn probing into plant-based diets, and “Sugar Interrupted,” in which diabetic chef Sam Talbot investigates a tattoo that changes color depending on a person’s blood sugar level.
Future episodes include “Meat Interrupted” with chef Chris Cosentino, due to drop Nov. 12, and “Clean Interrupted,” following SoulPancake’s founder, actor Rainn Wilson, as he looks into urban crop sharing technology (Nov. 19).
