YouTube Stars Liza Koshy And David Dobrik Have Broken Up

For years, Liza Koshy and David Dobrik were known as one of YouTube’s most notable power couples. As of six months ago, however, that title no longer applies to them. The two creators have split up, as they announced in a vlog posted to Dobrik’s channel.

Koshy and Dobrik, who had been together since 2015, explained that they broke up six months ago, but it took them three months to tell their friends and three more to tell their fans. Koshy, who has been open about her struggle with social anxiety, explained her breakup by repeating the maxim “you have to love yourself before you love anyone else.”

“I really want to spread love,” she said with teary eyes, “but I have to have it first. It’s like saying you’re going to spread mayonnaise but you only have mustard.”

Dobrik added that while the decision to split was Koshy’s, he understood where she was coming from. “Liza broke with me because she felt like we’d been kind of distant because we’d just been so busy, period,” he said. “As much as I hate to admit it, I was feeling that on my side, too.”

Though they are no longer together, Koshy and Dobrik say they are still close friends. And yes, they’re both still very busy. Koshy’s May included a gig at the Met Gala and the announcement that she would host a rebooted version of the Nickelodeon game show Double Dare. Dobrik, meanwhile, is prepping for a tour, which he will embark on alongside fellow “Vlog Squad” member Jason Nash.

Meanwhile, they’ll both reach their respective fans on YouTube, where Koshy has 14 million subscribers and Dobrik has 6.8 million of them. As a testament to their shared star power, their breakup video has already been viewed more than four million times despite only arriving on the internet a day ago.
