YouTube Star Simone Giertz Will Have Surgery To Remove Brain Tumor

The queen of shitty robots is dealing with a shitty situation of her own. Simone Giertz, known for creating contraptions that tend to fail in hilarious fashion, announced on her YouTube channel that she will have surgery to remove a benign tumor on her brain.

Giertz, 27, told her fans that she went to get an MRI scan after experiencing pain in her right eye. The procedure revealed a “pretty substantial brain tumor,” which will be operated on in late May. Though Giertz noted that growth is unlikely to be fatal, she rattled off a list of scary side effects that could result from the operation, including partial facial paralysis and loss of vision in her right eye.

Giertz’s whimsical inventions have allowed her to gather close to one million subscribers on her YouTube channel. In 2016, she got a chance to take her act to CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

. More recently, she teamed up with Portal A to launch a branded video centered around the launch of the second season of the HBO series Westworld.

In sharing her sad news, Giertz took some time to tearfully thank the fans who have followed her along her creative journey. “These last three years since I started my YouTube channel have been the best three years of my life,” she said, “and I’ve gotten to do things I never thought I was going to get to do, and it’s all because of you.”

While Giertz hopes to release some vlogs leading up to her surgery, she will need to take some time off afterward in order to recover. In the meantime, you can help her out by supporting her on Patreon. We hope to see her back building shitty robots as soon as possible.
