YouTuber-Actor Kian Lawley Dropped By CAA After Racist Video Resurfaces

The fallout continues for Kian Lawley after a video resurfaced in which the YouTube star-turned-actor uttered several racist slurs.

Yesterday, Lawley was axed from The Hate U Give, a Twentieth Century Fox film inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. His scenes will be re shot, though a replacement has not yet been named. And now, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Lawley’s agency of more than two years, CAA, will no longer represent the 22-year-old.

In the video in question, Lawley used the n-word and discussed offensive stereotypes. He apologized in a series of Tweets yesterday, stating that, “Words have power and can do a lot damage. I own mine and I am sorry.” He added that he respects Fox’s decision to remove him from the film given that The Hate U Give is about a prep school student who witnesses a police officer murder her best friend, and serves as a commentary on the policing of poor, black communities. “From now on,” Lawley said, “I plan to use my voice for positive change.”
