YouTube Millionaires: Hannah Stocking’s Comedy Sketches “Spread Positivity” Online

Welcome to YouTube Millionaires, where we profile channels that have recently crossed the one million subscriber mark. There are channels crossing this threshold every week, and each has a story to tell about YouTube success. Read previous installments of YouTube Millionaires here.

Hannah Stocking is one of YouTube’s rising stars, and her digital success is opening new doors. Like many of the other creators in the Shots Studios network, Stocking found an audience on Vine before porting her brand of sketch comedy across the internet. Her recent ventures have included a role in a Tyler Perry film, and her YouTube channel now has more than two million subscribers. Here’s what she had to say about all that and more:

Tubefilter: How does it feel to have more than two million YouTube subscribers? What do you have to say to your fans?

Hannah Stocking: I’m so grateful to have such amazing support. It means so much to me that even just one person wants to spend a couple of minutes of their time watching me be silly on YouTube, let alone more than two million. It just makes me want to work harder and get better at creating content that everyone loves.

TF: Your YouTube channel has grown quickly. Why do you think that is?

HS: I try to be as consistent as possible, posting videos every week or so. I think collaborating helps. [Lele Pons, Inanna Sarkis, Rudy Mancuso, Anwar Jibawi], and I are always working together and we all help each other grow. Ultimately, people want to see enjoyable content. My priority is to always create a video that will make people laugh and have fun.

TF: What do you think separates a great comedy sketch from a mediocre one?

HS: Well, the plot has to be engaging and funny. I think, when you’re working with other people, chemistry is really important. I’m lucky to have really funny and talented friends that I work with so it feels really natural when we’re shooting and writing. The biggest factor, though, is effort. If you take the time to write, shoot, and edit, then you’ll have a product that you can be proud of and viewers pick up on that effort.

TF: How much would you say the nature of your content changes across Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc?

HS: It’s all connected. I try to be authentic so you’re getting the real me across all of my platforms. If I post a video on YouTube, I post the links and clips on all of my social media accounts.

TF: As someone who gained a lot of followers on Vine, are you excited for the new version of the app that is supposed to launch this year?

HS: Anytime a new platform for people to be creative on comes out, it’s exciting. It’ll be interesting to see what it’ll be like and how it will be different from the first Vine.

TF: Of all the collaborations you’ve done on YouTube, which one is your favorite?

HS: In my latest video, I worked with Lamorne Morris from New Girl. He is so funny and is amazing to work with.

TF: Is there someone you haven’t made a video with who you’d like to work with in the future?

HS: I’d love to work with Kevin Hart or Will Ferrell!

TF: Where do you see yourself five years down the line?

HS: In terms of who I am, I see myself as a better version of who I am today. My goal is to spread positivity and grow as a creator and as a person. In terms of my career, it would be great to do some more movies. I had so much fun working with Tyler Perry and it would be great to show what I can do on a platform like that.

TF: What’s next for your channel? Any fun plans?

HS: I just want to continue to think outside of the box and keep creating fun content. I like incorporating my background in science into my videos. It’s fun to bring together two passions of mine and I think it makes my content unique. If I can teach someone a little something while making them laugh then I’m pretty happy with that.
