Description: Amir Johnson is back, and he’s ready to uphold the law, even if he has to put up with his incompetent colleagues along the way. Amir, portrayed by Che Holloway, is the protagonist of Dark Justice, which is currently seeking Kickstarter funding ahead of its third season.

Amir, according to the Dark Justice Kickstarter page, is the “first black cop in a small town,” a role that leads to many confused interactions with local residents. Across the show’s first two seasons, Amir has sought to perform his duty admirably while cleaning up the police department he works in, but those goals are made more difficult by the dimwittedness of both the town’s inhabitants and Amir’s partner. Comedy, as you can no doubt imagine, ensues.

With Dark Justice, creator Mike Gerbino and his team are out to create a snappily-written, timely series that offers a comment about current racial attitudes in the United States while also including plenty of laughs. More information can be found in the project’s pitch video:

Creator Bio: Gerbino’s work includes film, music, and spoken word credits. His past creations, including several web series, can be found on his website.

Best Perk: The $100 perk collection includes several pieces of Dark Justice swag, including a shot glass emblazoned with the show’s logo.

Why You Should Fund It: Anyone who is reticent about Dark Justice‘s quality should check out previous seasons of the show, which can be found on its website. Thanks to its sharp lampooning of small-town dynamics and the committed performances of its actors, it succeeds at lampooning modern attitudes toward race. It’s a series that is well-tuned for the current cultural moment, and with its third season, it should be able to continue its winning streak.
