Former Discovery Exec Jim Louderback To Replace Hank Green As CEO Of VidCon

VidCon, the yearly conference that serves online video creators and their fans, has a new man in its chief executive position. Jim Louderback, who has run VidCon’s Industry Track for its past three iterations, will take over for Hank Green as the organization’s CEO.

In his new position, Louderback will take charge of VidCon’s day-to-day activity. In addition to its annual gathering at the Anaheim Convention Center in Southern California, the company has also expanded its profile through conferences in Europe and Australia. Green, who co-founded VidCon alongside his brother John, will continue to have an active role in the organization. As its Chairman, he will focus more on ensuring the best possible experience for fans and creators.

In the online video world, Louderback is best known as the co-founder and longtime CEO of Revision3, an online video network that paid particular attention to goings-on in the tech industry. Revision3 sold to Discovery in 2012, and Louderback continued his executive role there for two more years before leaving his post in 2014.

It was only a few months after his departure from Discovery that Louderback took charge of VidCon’s Industry Track, which features lectures, keynotes, and panels catered to online video professionals. Under his leadership, the Industry portion of the VidCon itinerary has expanded from a single day event to a full slate of programming that spans the conference’s multi-day schedule.

“Stepping into Hank’s role as CEO of VidCon is sort of like replacing David Tennant in Doctor Who,” said Louderback in a press release. “VidCon is the most special event I’ve ever attended, and it’s been an honor to help curate part of it over the last three years. Hank has built one of the most amazing teams in the business, and I am looking forward to expanding on his success while ensuring VidCon remains true to Hank’s original vision.”

In addition to Louderback, several other VidCon employees have earned new titles. Michael Gardner is now the company’s Chief Strategy Officer, while Colin Hickey has been named as its Chief Operating Officer.
