Stephen ‘Boogie2988’ Williams, the 43-year-old YouTube gaming star with roughly 4.2 million subscribers, announced back in May that he was opting for gastric bypass surgery in a bid to slim down.
And now, Williams has shared an update vlog with followers after returning home and beginning the recovery process. While Williams says the procedure went smoothly and that he hasn’t experienced any major complications, he is still in tremendous abdominal pain and having difficulty consuming the caloric intake recommended by his doctors.
He’s eager to get back to making videos, Williams says, but the painkillers he’s taking have made it particularly hard to stay awake, let alone pay attention to any games — especially ones with a narrative component.
Williams is still on a liquid diet, and says that in six weeks he’ll be able to eat solid food again — though, right now, the idea of eating or drinking anything makes him nauseous. “That’s the whole tool here,” he says. “This is an opportunity for me to redefine my relationship with food. It’s being forcibly redefined right now, and as long as I make good choices over the next couple of months — and continue to make those good choices for the rest of my life — [the weight] should pretty much melt off.”
