SkyDoesMinecraft Star Quits ‘Minecraft’ Channel To Focus On Music Videos

Since launching his SkyDoesMinecraft channel in 2011, Adam Dahlberg has endured as one of the most popular Minecraft creators on YouTube. The one-time Tubefilter chart-topper has accrued more than 3.5 billion views on his block-busting channel while adding more than 11 million subscribers.

Now, however, Dahlberg is moving on. In a July 6 video, he announced his plan to move his online video presence from SkyDoesMinecraft to a channel called NetNobody, where he will pursue his passion for much.

In his video, Dahlberg explained that he has tired of his career as a Minecraft YouTuber. “I’ve been in this block world for so long that I feel like it’s time to explore the real world,” he said, “and I’d like to take you guys along with me.”

On NetNobody, Dahlberg will show off his songwriting abilities as well as his voice. While he is best known as a Minecraft creator, he has also made efforts to show off his musical chops in the past. In 2015, for example, he appeared alongside Peter Hollens to perform a medley of Star Wars tunes. In the days leading up to his departure from SkyDoesMinecraft, he began to stock NetNobody with some videos that display his talents.

On NetNobody, Dahlberg plans to change not just the genre of his videos but also their tone. While SkyDoesMinecraft, like many other Minecraft channels, is clean enough to appeal to all ages, NetNobody will be “completely un-kid friendly,” Dahlberg explained. “I’m unhappy being labeled a Minecrafter. I want to go back to making f**ked up content.”

Rather than shutter the SkyDoesMinecraft channel entirely, Dahlberg plans to turn it into a community channel. He will offer free publicity to aspiring Minecraft YouTubers by uploading their videos to his well-trafficked hub. In addition, he will split ad revenue with those creators. As he suggested on Twitter, he may offer as much as 75% of all earnings to videomakers. Good on Dahlberg for pursuing his passion, and we’re happy he has found a way to give back to some of his longtime fans in the process.
