Vimeo has named ecommerce veteran Michael Concannon its new chief technology officer, the company announced this morning. Concannon will henceforth oversee technical strategy for the video-sharing platform, and will report to Vimeo’s interim CEO — and the CEO of parent company IAC — Joey Levin, who replaced Vimeo’s former CEO Kerry Trainor last June.
“Michael is a technologist at heart with a passion to build — not just imagine — disruptive technologies,” Levin said in a statement. “We’re going to have some fun building.” Added Concannon: “I’ve long admired Vimeo for its uncompromising commitment to quality and I’m excited to be joining the company at such an exciting moment of growth.”
Vimeo currently has an on-demand subscription service à la Netflix in the works, and Concannon has likely been tapped to help construct that platform.

Most recently, Concannon served as CTO of ELOQUII, a plus-size fashion company. He has also served as CTO of the Amazon-owned e-tailer Quidsi, as well as the VP of ecommerce for Barnes & Noble and VP of engineering for direct-to-consumer services at Sony Music Entertainment. Concannon will fill a role formerly held by Andrew Pile, who, as one of Vimeo’s first employees, had been with the company for over a decade, and who left the site in April, according to Variety.
