Digital Studio Insurrection Media Prepares Another Adaptation Of A YA Novel

Digital media companies are bullish on adaptations of young adult fiction, and Insurrection Media is no exception. The studio founded by former FOX exec Kiliaen Van Rensselaer has joined forces with Keshet Studios for a pilot based off The Dead Girls Detective Agency, a book written by Suzy Cox and published by HarperCollins.

The Dead Girls Detective Agency is a paranormal drama that revolves around a young woman who wakes up in a hotel room and learns she is dead. To escape purgatory, she must solve the mystery of her own murder.

While many of the deals Insurrection has inked since its 2015 launch aim to bring TV-quality entertainment to digital platforms, the Dead Girls Detective Agency pilot will be shopped to both digital and linear TV distributors, according to a press release. It is one of several projects Insurrection is working on alongside HarperCollins; the two companies announced a partnership back in December 2015

Keshet, for its own part, can now count Insurrection as one of several partners in the digital media space. The international production company has also worked with BuzzFeed and New Form.

“Reaching global millennial audiences with engaging stories, on both traditional and digital platforms, is key to our ongoing strategy,” said Sebastian Burkhardt, SVP of Digital and Acquisitions for Keshet International, in the release. “The Dead Girls Detective Agency achieves exactly this by offering universally relatable themes and supernatural undertones. This marks the beginning of what Keshet intends to be a successful and ongoing relationship with Insurrection.”

Production on the Dead Girls Detective Agency pilot is expected to begin in March.
