Project For Awesome has once again raised an awe-inspiring amount of money. The 2016 edition of the charity drive, run by Vlogbrothers hosts Hank and John Green, has picked up more than $2.1 million, which will be split among organizations selected by both the Green brothers and their fans.
The $2.1 million total beat out last year’s $1.5 million intake, making 2016 the fifth straight year in which Project For Awesome has shown an upward trend. This time around, the Vlogbrothers raised $866,117 through Indiegogo; that money will go directly to Save the Children and Partners In Health, the two organizations handpicked by the Greens. The remaining funds, raised in part through a 48-hour live stream featuring the Vlogbrothers and their friends, will be split among charities championed by members of the YouTube community. This year, the most viewed P4A videos have come from YouTube stars like Smarter Every Day, Tessa Violet, and charlieissocoollike, who have thrown their influence behind Not Forgotten, End Slavery TN, and the Wildlife Conservation Network, respectively.
