Welcome to the Fund This column! Each week, we’ll look at a planned web series or other online video project currently in search of funding on crowdfunding sites. We’ll tell you what the series is all about and explain why it is worth your money. Do you have a project that’s currently being crowdfunded? Project Name: A Murder At The Casidir Motel
Asking For: $1,080 on Kickstarter
Amount Raised Thus Far (At Time Of Post): $662
Days Remaining In Campaign (At Time Of Post): 11
Description: A new project on Kickstarter is looking to add another chapter to the web series community’s library of murder mysteries. A group of creators from New Zealand have turned to their backers in order to fund A Murder At The Casidir Motel, which will tell a whodunit story that bends time.
Casidir Motel will take place at its titular venue, where a woman has been found stabbed to death in a bathtub. In order to uncover the truth about her death, a pair of detectives choose to look back it time. On the surface, the series sounds similar to Memento, the Christopher Nolan thriller that famously toys with time and perspective.
I would love to tell you more about Casidir Motel, but that’s really all I’ve got; the series’
campaign page is very vague, perhaps purposefully so, and so we’ll just have to wait to learn more details. In the meantime, you can take a look at the show’s pitch video, which is equally short and mysterious, but also artful and enticing.Creator Bio: Seerat Mast, who posted the Casidir Motel campaign on Kickstarter, is a student at the Auckland University of Technology. Like the show she’s working on, she doesn’t have a big footprint on the Internet.
Best Perk: Anyone who contributes at least $50 to Casidir Motel will receive a video message from the crew. There’s no word as to whether that message will be filmed in reverse.
Why You Should Fund It: The introductory video for Casidir Motel, which runs for just 22 seconds, offers far less information about the show its selling than a typical Kickstarter pitch. At the same time, those 22 seconds are extremely intriguing. We learn that Casidir Motel will have a distinct visual style, that it will be shot with care and precision, and that it won’t give its secrets away so easily. If the show’s team truly needs just $1,080 to complete their project, than they deserve to reach their goal. Casidir Motel may be a low-ceiling Kickstarter campaign, but it’s got enough style and enough potential to draw my attention.
