Award-winning PBS documentary series POV and The New York Times are seeking a creator, filmmaker, or creative technologist to work on forthcoming content projects. POV and the Times will tap a so-called ‘Embedded Mediamaker’ who will work for 20 weeks alongside Times journalists and create content for its Race/Related newsletter, which “[explores] race with provocative reporting and discussion.”
Applications, available here, are due by July 25, and candidates must also submit pitches pertaining to race and ethnicity that make use of a digital publishing medium. Funding for the project will be provided by The MacArthur Foundation, which says it “supports creative people and effective institutions committed to building a more just, verdant, and peaceful world.”
“We are thrilled to collaborate with POV on what will certainly be a transformative moment for digital journalism,” Nancy Gauss
, executive director of video for the Times, said in a statement. “The filmmaker will work alongside the Times‘s most creative journalists to experiment with innovative storytelling tools to explore and report on race, one of the biggest issues in the country right now.”POV and the Times have previously collaborated to co-distribute documentaries including The Men of Atalissa, about the exploitation of a group of men with intellectual disability; yacht racing film Strangers at Sea; and The Nipple Artist, which is about a tattoo artist who helps breast cancer survivors post-mastectomy.
