That about sums up what all the upcoming episodes of season 28’s social influencer-fueled season of The Amazing Race are going to feel like from here on out. We’re down to the strongest teams. The teams are hitting their strides. They know their strengths. They know their weaknesses. And the challenges are getting harder. The days of working together are done. Teams are jockeying for position at every single task. It’s crunch time and it’s, dare I say, AMAZING.

Midnight Train to #Blodie

On a scale of 1 to 10, the pun generator this episode was turned up to 11. It started with Phil letting everyone know the teams are now heading to Georgia. During the night. On a train. You know where this is going…

Yes, the teams are now heading to the former Soviet republic, a journey that takes teams on a 10-hour train ride (and gets them all back on an even playing field). Tyler is eager to get himself and Korey back to the front of the pack. #Blodie is taking advantage of the time to continue to get to know one another because, as Blair herself shared while live tweeting the show…

Wonder how Scott (aka Blair’s dad and Race teammate) feels about that…

It’s Time To #MakeSomeCandy

Teams now head to the St. George Statue in Freedom Square for their next clue. It directs them to head towards Narikala Fortress and ride a gondola down to the river before continuing onto Jvari Monastery. This is where teams can start getting some distance between each other becuase only one team can take the gondolas at the time and to even get to the Fortress, teams have to negotiate up a very steep hill. Some of the taxis can’t make it up the hill, too, forcing some teams to make the inclined trek on foot. This is just the kind of stressful situation that get The Dancers riled up and when Dana gets riled up, she cops an attitude with the locals.

Do. Not. Upset. Dana.

Do. Not. Upset. Dana.

At the Monastery, teams receive their Detour clues and have to choose between Clean and String. In Clean, teams have to scrub out a giant underground pot for making wine. In String, teams make a special hazelnut candy dipped in syrup. There’s some more strategy than usual involved in what teams choose here as there are only four stations per task. That means if a fifth team arrives at a task, they either have to wait for an open station or switch to the other task.

Cole and Sheri aren't whining about this challenge. (Sorry)

Cole and Sheri are whining about this challenge. Get it?!?

This came into play several times during the Detour. Most teams headed straight for the candy, probably because who doesn’t want to #MakeSomeCandy?

Nice plug there for Tyler’s autobiography, KendryckTaveras. But I digress. This task also blesses us with a string of nut puns from #Torey that the challenge handed to them on a silver platter. “You’re driving me nuts!” “We’ve got a little time to dip our nuts.” It goes on and on until it ends when #Torey switches its task Clean when Tyler and Korey both ruin all their threading needles and cut up their fingers trying to #MakeSomeCandy.

Tyler and Korey are going nuts.

Tyler and Korey are going nuts. Get it?!?

Here are where teams placed in the Detour including what task (or sometimes tasks) each team did:

  1. The Kings: String
  2. Team Rooster Teeth: String
  3. Frisbee Boys: String
  4. Team Family Time: Clean
  5. Team JuicyDad07: String (they have to wait a little bit because all the stations were filled, but were able to hop onto #Torey’s station once they switched to Clean)
  6. Team Dancers: String, then Clean, then String again, then Clean (Okay so yeah, this got weird. Team Dancers got to String but the stations were full. Instead of waiting, they decide to head to Clean, but then got impatient with their taxi driver and decide to go BACK to String. Once there, they run into #Torey, which is leaving String for Clean…so Team Dancers decides to follow #Torey back to Clean, which they end up doing and end up passing #Torey)
  7. Torey: String and then Clean

Time for Some #Koreyography

Who is ready for a Dance Challenge??? Almost every season of The Amazing Race has one and it generally results in a big shake-up of team order as some people have the moves and others take forever to pick up the choreography. Or should we say – in the pun-filled terms of this episode and courtesy of our King of Hashtags Tyler Oakley – the #Koreyography.

As funny as this pun is, Korey honestly has some serious trouble with this challenge. Plus, this traditional Georgian dance is FAST. Even Team Dancers, who understandably KILL this challenge (which mellows out Dana…apparently all she needs in order to chill out was to dance a bit…hopefully Matt keeps this in mind in future legs) comment on the choreography being tough.

Ashley's Georgian whip and nae nae.

Ashley’s Georgian whip and nae nae.

And yes, besides Team Dancers, there are a couple of real standouts in this challenge. Ashley of Team Rooster Teeth only messes up or her first try and then immediately nails it. I was worried Sheri of Team Family Time would have a repeat struggle after last week’s oil change debacle, but it turns out not only has Sheri been looking forward to the dance challenge, she excels at it. Mom can cut a rug! And because Sheri does so well, Team JuicyDad07 and #Torey are left battling it out for the last spot.

Results from Road Block:

  1. Team Rooster Teeth
  2. The Kings
  3. Frisbee Boys
  4. Team Dancers
  5. Team Family Time
  6. Team JuicyDad07
  7. #Torey

While #Torey finishes the challenge after Team JuicyDad07, Scott accidentally grabs Tyler’s bag when they try to leave, not knowing that Blair had grabbed both her bag and his (in order to help them get out the door faster). Tyler almost has a sass meltdown at the thought someone has stolen his bag. This is the most angry we’ve seen him the entire race. But Scott does the right thing and runs Tyler’s bag back to him, basically setting it up so #Torey and Team JuicyDad07 are in a footrace to the Pit Stop, which is on a bridge perhaps no-so-aptly named The Bridge of Peace.

Too Close For Comfort

Though Ashley finishes the dancing challenge super fast and gets Team Rooster Teeth on the road to what would seem like a first place win, the taxi they are in take them to the wrong park, giving The Kings a chance to get past them. This results in a first place finish for The Kings as well as a trip courtesy of Travelocity. Team Dancers get ahead of quite a few teams because of Dana’s obvious professional-level dance skills (“Let’s see if 18 years of dance classes pay off!” she says…and they do).

And coming down to literally seconds and a taxi driver who decided to drive on the sidewalk to give them that extra time, #Torey makes it to the Pit Stop before Team JuicyDad07, and the fan-favorite team is eliminated.

Pit Stop results:

  1. The Kings
  2.  Team Rooster Teeth
  3. Frisbee Boys
  4. Team Dancers
  5. Team Family Time
  6. #Torey
  7. Team JuicyDad07

Though Blair was not my favorite player at the start of The Race, she really grew on me week after week, as did her relationship with her Dad. Their love and admiration for each other clearly grew as they learned from each leg. (Good job, Amazing Race editors!) The girl who packed a curling iron she wouldn’t be able to use most of the Race grew to be a respected Racer, as part of a team that was always willing to lend other teams a hand when it made sense, but could also be cutthroat if needed. And of course, we shall all miss #Blodie.

See ya, TeamJuicyDad07. You and #Blodie will be missed.

How do you feel about the elimination of Team JuicyDad07? Are you going to miss #Blodie? Let me know in the comments below and also be sure to Tweet during future episodes and you might see your Tweet featured in a future column!
