Bosch isn’t the most high-profile series within Amazon’s lineup of original programs, but it is good, solid television, and it has now returned for its second season. Ten new episodes of the old-school cop show can how be streamed by anyone with an Amazon Prime subscription.
The titular character in Bosch is a detective, played by Titus Welliver, who embodies the hard-boiled, tough characteristics possessed by noir heroes of yore. The show is based on a book series by Michael Connelly, and season two adapts more of Connelly’s work while delving further into the personalities of his characters.

Critics graded the first season of Bosch as solid work that isn’t groundbreaking but functions well as an enjoyable distraction. That formula proved to be a viable one; when Amazon announced its plan to renew Bosch for a second season, it noted that the cop show had the strongest opening weekend of any Amazon original series released up to that point. On the awards front, Bosch managed to earn an Emmy nomination for its title design.
The critical responses that have rolled in for season two speak to exactly the sort of show Bosch is. The six reviews collected on Metacritic are all positive, though none are truly glowing. In other words, Bosch is still the same passable fare it was in its first season.
What else is there to say about Bosch? It’s fair to speculate that the only reason the show isn’t more of a mainstream hit is because of the saturated TV environment we live in. How else can you explain a show that is well-liked by its viewers, well-regarded by critics, and yet, to so many people, a complete unknown?
