Fresh off his gig as a reporter at the Vanity Fair post-Oscar party, online video star Tyler Oakley has received another opportunity to mingle in the traditional media world. The YouTube vlogger and social media personality stopped by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where he discussed some of his latest work.
Oakley and Fallon take the time to discuss the YouTube star’s post-Oscar presence, with a particular focus on his encounter with singer Lady Gaga. As Oakley tells it, Gaga recognized him after seeing his face on billboards set up by YouTube. “My queen knows who I am,” he quipped.
In the above clip, Oakley also talks about his presence within the most recent season of The Amazing Race. He and his friend Korey Kuhl are one of the teams in a field made up entirely of digital media stars, all of whom are competing for the reality show’s top prize of one million dollars. You can read weekly recaps of this season’s Amazing Race episodes right here at Tubefilter.
In a second video shared on the Tonight Show YouTube channel, Oakley and Fallon commemorate the social media star’s guest appearance in an appropriate manner: A Snapchat face swap. The result does not quite come out the way they planned, but they seem to be having fun. For Oakley, who has also appeared on CBS’ Late Late Show with James Corden, his Tonight Show debut was another opportunity to serve as a charming ambassador for “#TeamInternet” and the online video community at large. I’d like to think he accomplished that goal.
