Netflix has dropped the trailer for Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, a feature film starring the oddball character that represents one of the streaming giant’s first original movies and the Pee-wee character’s first major motion picture in over 25 years.
In the trailer, infantilized and crafty Pee-wee is spurred to leave the confines of his hometown, Fairville, when he meets a suave stranger played by Joe Manganiello (of Magic Mike, True Blood, and Mr. Sofia Vergara fame). The decision to take his first-ever holiday sets into motion a series of madcap adventures, as Pee-wee becomes unwittingly embroiled in a bank robbery, and ends up stranded in the woods, on a snake farm and in an Amish village.

The film, which will premiere at South by Southwest and then arrive on Netflix on March 18, was executive produced by Judd Apatow and directed by John Lee. Pee-wee’s Big Holiday was initially set up by Universal, but Netflix officially scooped up distribution last year.
In a statement at the time, Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos said, “We didn’t hesitate for a moment knowing that Pee-wee’s Big Holiday was such a passion project for Paul [Reubens, who originated the Pee-wee character] and Judd.”
