Johnny Depp Stars In Funny Or Die Film Poking Fun At Donald Trump

Thanks to his win in the New Hampshire primary, Donald Trump has momentum, and more so than ever, he’s ripe for satire. Funny or Die has released a 50-minute movie called The Art of the Deal, which stars Johnny Depp as Trump.

The Art of the Deal is a faux-adaptation of Trump’s best-selling book of the best name, which has recently served as a noticeable influence on campaign strategy. For the film’s lead role, Depp dons Trump’s signature hairpiece and puts on his best New York accent, and a loaded supporting cast backs him up. The actors who appear alongside Depp include Alfred Molina, Patton Oswalt, Jack McBrayer, Stephen Merchant, Christopher Lloyd, and Kristen Schaal. The film’s director, Jeremy Konner, is a Funny or Die vet best known for his work on Drunk History.

Trump is an easy guy to make fun of, and Funny or Die’s Art of the Deal adaptation could have held up on its central figure’s idiosyncrasies alone. Instead, the comedy studio has gone for a broader parody of 80s. The film’s trailer displays old-school graphics and a distinct color palette, and if that’s not 80s enough for you, there’s an Alf cameo to seal the deal.

The Art of the Deal runs for 50 minutes, and it is currently available on the Funny or Die website.

As an election season distraction, The Art of the Deal gets the job done. I only wish we could see Trump’s response to Funny or Die’s parody of him, because as Seth Meyers proved back in 2011, the Donald takes it personally when comedians needle him. I guess light satire isn’t part of the “deal.”
