ScreenJunkies Gets Scripted With ‘Interns Of F.I.E.L.D.’

The channel behind Honest Trailers has unveiled its first ever scripted series. Defy Media’s ScreenJunkies is the home of Interns of F.I.E.L.D., a new show that parodies Marvel’s superhero universe.

As its name implies, Interns of F.I.E.L.D. is primarily a spoof of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the TV show Marvel premiered on ABC in 2013. The new series follows a group of low-level lackeys as they assist crime-fighting superheroes by carrying out menial duties. In the premiere, for example, they are asked to babysit a whiny supervillain.

Interns of F.I.E.L.D. is one of the shows Defy Media is selling as part of its premium subscription service, ScreenJunkies Plus. While the first Interns episode is available for free on the ScreenJunkies YouTube channel (which has more than 5.1 million subscribers), a Plus subscription is required to view all additional installments.

In terms of its production values, Interns of F.I.E.L.D. certainly holds up as the sort of “premium content” Defy Media wants it to be. It is brightly-lit, well-paced, and filled with all of the flashy superpowers and futuristic technology required for a good Marvel parody. At the same time, some viewers have quibbled with the quality of the acting, writing, and plotting, and it’s hard to imagine Interns of F.I.E.L.D. will sell many subscriptions on its own. Luckily for Defy Media, its premium service has plenty of other offerings, including a series hosted by filmmaker Kevin Smith and several others led by ScreenJunkies collaborators like Jeremy Jahns and Chris Stuckmann.
