This January, Vine turned three. The video capture app first arrived on the social media scene in the first month of 2013, and while its popularity may have waned since then, it is still a significant player within the online video world. In order to celebrate its third birthday, Vine curated a collection of its top posts of the past 12 months.
Vine’s creative community is a strange and diverse group, and the videos that defined the app’s year are similarly eclectic. Some of them are clips from TV programs; others are the work of ultra-popular social media stars; others cash in on trending topics like the Nae Nae and Unexpected John Cena; and, of course, there are plenty of cute animals in the mix. The Vine that received more loops in 2015 than any other, however, was a newsworthy clip. It was taken at Paris’ Stade de France and captures the exact moment when a terrorist attack struck the city on November 13th. Since then, it has received more than 331 million plays.

All in all, 2015 was a weird, funny, creative, shocking, and wild year on Vine. As a blog post from the app states, “This year was unforgettable. Here’s to an even more memorable year 4.”
