Tyler Oakley can soon add “documentary film star” to his list of accolades. The 26-year-old YouTube celebrity and LGBT advocate is the main focus of a new documentary from Awesomeness Films called Snervous, set for a limited theatrical run in winter 2015.
Directed by Amy Rice (HBO’s By the People: The Election of Barack Obama), Snervous follows the life of Oakley during the summer of 2014 when he traveled across the U.S., UK, and Ireland for his Slumber Party tour. Snervous will hit select theaters in December 2015 (though there’s no word yet on which venues those will be). The documentary will then be released across all major digital platforms thanks to Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
Snervous is produced by Oakley, Rice, Korey Kuhl, Lisa Filipelli (Oakley’s manager at Big Frame, which was acquired by AwesomenessTV not so long ago), and Laura Flanagan. AwesomenessTV’s Brian Robbins and Awesomeness Films’ Mike Kaplan, who was hired as division lead in June 2015, are also on board as producers.

“I feel so lucky to partner with Awesomeness to bring my story to the big screen,” Oakley said in a statement, as reported by Variety. “I started out making videos as a way to connect and am thrilled by the opportunity to share one of the most exhilarating years of my life.”
This is not the first documentary piece Awesomeness Films has worked on. The entertainment company is also working on a mockumentary concert special featuring the YouTube supergroup The Janoskians. As for scripted films featuring YouTube and social media stars, Awesomeness is currently prepping Shovel Buddies starring Kian Lawley, Dance Camp starring Meg DeAngelis, and Before I Fall starring Zoey Deutch.
As for Oakley, the YouTube vlogger has certainly been living the dream since achieving digital fame. Oakley, who now boasts over 7.6 million subscribers on his channel, won a Streamys ICON Award in 2014 for his work with The Trevor Project. The YouTuber also has his first book, a collection of personal essays called Binge, arriving on October 20, 2015. Oakley is releasing snippets of his book on Wattpad over the next few weeks.
No release date has been announced as of yet for Snervous.
