Amazon Studios will test adding more content to its ever-growing slate of kids’ programming. The streaming video platform and online retail giant has ordered six new pilot episodes for children’s series set for release on Amazon Instant Video in Summer 2015.
The greenlit children’s pilots will debut this summer on Amazon Instant Video as the newest round of the platform’s kid-based pilot seasons. As is the case with all of Amazon’s pilot seasons, the e-commerce giant’s upcoming slate of episodes for kids will allow Amazon customers to give feedback about which pilot episodes they want to see turned into an Original Series on Prime.
Amazon’s first pilot is for the animated The Adventures of Knickerbock Teetertop, aimed at preschool children. Knickerbock tells the story of the titular character who wants to be an adventurer just like his grandpa. Amazon’s second animated pilot, Lost in Oz, comes from production studio Bureau of Magic (Smallville, East Los High) and is a modern re-imagining of the story of Dorothy, her dog Toto, and the magical city of Oz.

The third animated children’s pilot for Amazon will be Lily the Unicorn from The Jim Henson Company, centered on the character Lily who makes everyday events seem extraordinary. Amazon’s final animated pilot is Bear in Underwear from artist Todd Goldman and writer Dave Schiff (That ‘70s Show, Robot and Monster). Bear centers on the optimistic Eddie who’s always trying to make life for his forest friends better and more exciting.
Two live-action children’s pilots have been given the greenlight by Amazon, as well. The first is A History of Radness from Hannah Montana’s Andrew Green; the series follows siblings Jack and Tessie as they form a band of middle school-outsiders and eventually grow in popularity. Finally, Amazon will bring The Kicks pilot to Instant Video, featuring character Devin Burke who must step up to lead a failing soccer team at her new school in California.
“These new pilots will bring sophisticated stories and unique points of view that we hope will resonate well with kids and families,” said Tara Sorensen, Head of Kids Programming for Amazon Studios, in a release. “We’re very excited to be working with such passionate creative teams and look forward to sharing these projects with our customers later this year.”
