‘Lizzie Bennet’, ‘VGHS’, ‘Burning Love’, ‘ERB’ Among PGA Nominees

At the past two Producers Guild of America Awards, the Outstanding Digital Series category honored a pair of online 30 Rock companions. This time around, the nominees ensure that an original web production will break that streak. The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, Video Game High School, Epic Rap Battles of History, Burning Love, and Wired: What’s Inside will compete for the PGA‘s digital series trophy, which will be handed out on January 19, 2014.

This year, the PGAs opened up the Outstanding Digital Series category to any creator who had aired three web series episodes in 2013, and the ultimate nominees represent some of the year’s best; there are reasons to believe each one has a chance to take home the award. Lizzie Bennet is a fan favorite that recently won a Primetime Emmy, VGHS most closely resembled previous PGA nominees (Red vs. Blue, The Guild, etc.), ERB is the hottest web series around and continues to draw big name guests (with Key and Peele making their second appearance in the most recent battle), Burning Love‘s cast and crew have the closest ties to Hollywood, and Wired: What’s Inside offers a non-fiction option.

The PGA is even paying attention to the web outside of the Outstanding Digital Series category. House of Cards is up for consideration in the prestigious Oustanding Producer, Drama category, while Arrested Development is also up for Outstanding Producer, Comedy.

Even if those series don’t emerge victorious, one of the five nominated digital series will become the first original web series honored by the PGA. If you have a particular horse in that race, you’ll want to tune in on January 19th.
