European Multi-Channel Network Base79 Gets Multipe Millions In Funding

Yet another multi-channel YouTube network has secured an sizable round of venture capital. Base79, whose holdings include five of YouTube’s Original Channels, has landed a multi-million dollars funding round led by Evolution Media Growth Partners, an investing arm affiliated with CAA.

Base79 claims more than 20 million daily views. Its partnered channels include comedy hub Bad Teeth (via Hat Trick Productions), the official Guinness World Records feed, and the Football Associations of both England and France (monetizing soccer clips was one of the network’s first specialties.) It had previously received an eight digit investment from Peter Chernin when the notable entrepreneur acquired a significant portion of the company, and the new found capital will help it continue its appeal to non-US creators.

“We’re honoured to receive this additional investment from Evolution Media Growth Partners, and support from Creative Artists Agency, the premier entertainment and sports agency,” said Base79 founder Ashley MacKenzie in a statement. “Alongside equity partner The Chernin Group and MMC Ventures in the UK, we have attracted powerful partners across sports, entertainment and broadcasting industries. It puts us in an enviable position to attract global talent for our offering.”

As US-based MCNs like Fullscreen are using their recent capital gains to explore overseas markets, Base79 already has a leg up. The UK-based network is considered to be one of the most popular MCNs in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, and its 800 channels consist mainly of international offerings. With offices in six different countries, Base79’s recent investment will let it add further channels to YouTube’s worldliest network.
