SourceFed Launches Spinoff YouTube Channel, SourceFed Nerd

SourceFed is getting geeky. One of the most successful channels to come out of YouTube’s $100 Million Originals Initiative just announced it’s launching a spinoff channel targeted towards the not-so-niche anymore nerd demographic.

SourceFed Nerd is slated to premiere May 20 and feature the familiar Streamy Award-winning faces of SourceFed (including Elliott Morgan, Joe Bereta, Lee Newton, Meg Turney, Steve Zaragoza, and Trisha Hershberger, and cameos by SourceFed creator and citizen number zero of the Phil DeFranco Nation, Phil DeFranco) talking about things tech, comic book, anime, movies, apps, collectibles, toys, board games, R2D2 dresses, and more.

“SourceFed Nerd is the continuation of what we have done the past few years,” explains DeFranco. “Make cool shit we love for people who also love it, but this time we’re breaking outside of our white wall room of news.” Here’s a peek:

If the success of its predecessor is any indication, SourceFed Nerd will perform very well with YouTube audiences.

Back in January 2012, DeFranco leveraged his massive 2+ million-subscriber-strong fan base to help launch the original SourceFed. Since then, the YouTube channel has amassed over 875,000 subscribers and nearly 350 million views (averaging out to about 100 million views per quarter).

Now that SourceFed and DeFranco’s sxephil have a combined user base bumping 3.5 million subs, expect SourceFed Nerd to see similar hockey-stick-like subscriber acquisition rates leading up to its debut and high-figure view counts after it releases its first installments. Be sure to tune into YouTube.com/SourceFedNerd on May 20 to contribute to those numbers.
