Julia Stiles Returning To WIGS For Second Season Of ‘Blue’

WIGS‘ biggest star is making a return. Blue, starring Julia Stiles, is following up its successful first season with a second go-round. The drama series about a single mother who moonlights as a prostitute will return for ten new episodes in 2013, and Stiles will also write and direct a separate series for the female-focused YouTube Original Channel.

Blue was one of the first series to debut on WIGS, launching in June 2012 just a few months after Jon Avnet and Rodrigo Garcia founded the scripted drama channel. The initial twelve episode run drew in millions of views and helped WIGS attract more than 100,000 subscribers. Expect another big marketing push when Blue returns on March 15.

Stiles has also written and directed Paloma, which will debut on WIGS sometime during the spring. Paloma stars Grace Gummer, best known as being Meryl Streep

‘s daughter. Could Avnet and Garcia be indebting themselves to Hollywood’s leading lady in an attempt to get her to star on their channel? Probably not, but I can hope.

Garcia gave his thoughts on Stiles’ return in a press release:

“We’re looking forward to hearing what fans think of the new installments of these series but are hoping to introduce them to new viewers as well. The inability for content to ‘become old’ is one of the qualities intrinsic to the platform that drew Julia Stiles to WIGS.  As a writer, director and actress on the channel, she is a huge advocate for us and we’re truly blessed to have her amongst our talented cast and crew on both Blue and Paloma.”

Alongside Blue, WIGS will also bring back Lauren, its Streamys-nominated series starring Troian Bellisario and Jennifer Beals. This represents a new strategy for WIGS. Previous, the channel rolled out a seemingly endless number of star-studded miniseries, some of which were more likable than others. By zeroing in on and renewing the series that proved successful, WIGS can use its solid production values, big name connections, and highly targeted audience to create a more consistent and engaging girls’ club.
