Matt Damon can now add a YouTube credit to his impressive filmography. The A-list Hollywood star has starred in a series of YouTube videos on the Water channel, the official feed of his water.org charity. To help drum up popular support, Damon has also enlisted the help of several YouTube stars, who join him in the fight to bring water to struggling populations around the globe.
The centerpiece of Damon’s online media push is a fake press conference video where Damon vows to stop using the bathroom until everyone in the world has access to proper sanitary facilities. Kudos to Damon for engaging his potential volunteers and donors in a witty, fun, unique way rather than just talking at the camera for a few minutes. Double kudos to Damon for including ShayCarl in the video as a kleptomaniac member of the press. A skeptical EpicLLOYD makes an appearance as well.

ShayCarl’s efforts, however, are not limited to a five-second clip in the Water video. Shay is one of the vloggers who joined up with the charity as part of Water’s Vloggers In The Field series. YouTube’s efforts saw the Vlogbrothers build a well in Haiti, VSauce educate the Internet on World Water Day, Wheezy Waiter travel to India, and more.
The record-breaking Project for Awesome taught us that YouTube has the potential to be a powerful force of good in the world; with Water’s efforts, it becomes clear that big name stars want to get in on the fun, too.
