Break's New MadeMan Site Launches Without Video, For Now

This caught me a little off guard but the launch of male-centric video site Break.com’s new spinoff site MadeMan.com this week came, surprisingly, without any video at all. The new portal is the further development of the company’s MadeMan newsletter which apparently has over 100,000 subscribers already. Beverly Hills-based Break Media is really the official company which now claims a network of macho sites on its bench: HolyTaco, CagePotato, ScreenJunkies, Chickipedia, WallStreetFighter and NASCAR-themed AllLeftTurns.

The content on the site is pure Digg-bait — 5 Things Girls Wish You Knew, 3 Ways to Twirt, 7 Steps to Get Girls in Airports, and similar definitive lists once considered standard men’s magazine fodder. The site is devoid of a video section, except for a modest “video of the day” pulled in from Break.com.

Lead sponsors for the new site include Tanqueray gin and camera maker Nikon.

The only real web series news here is the obvious question as to whether the site will have any male-focused original series to serve its active 18-34 male demo. I asked the folks at Break who confirmed that they are in fact looking to develop original series for the site, though none are in the works at the moment. Guess that means it’s time to get your pitch packets out!

Earlier this spring, Break acquired HBO’s Runaway Box team after rumors of an acquisition proved accurate. This brings to Break the creators of comedy series Elevator and Man in the Box, Danila Koverman, Mike Polk, and Woody Tondorf, to support Jon Small, VP of Editorial and head of Break’s Creative Labs team. It’s not clear yet whether any of Labs’ content will make it on to MadeMan.
