'Midwest Teen Sex Show' Signs Development Deal with Comedy Central

Despite being too risque for YouTube, Facebook, and even MySpace, the web series from Flyover Country, USA that “informs teens about responsible sexual practices through sketches and straight talk” is the perfect amount of lewd for Comedy Central.

That’s right, if the pilot pans out the Midwest Teen Sex Show will soon be known as both the “Internet’s Best Program on Sexual Education” and “Television’s Best Program on Sexual Education.”

If you noticed the web series’ name in Comedy Central’s announcement of it’s 2009 – 2010 development slate, but aren’t familiar with the series, you should be. Here’s one of my favorite (probably NSFW) installments:

I caught up with MTSS creator Nikol Hasler to ask a couple quick questions about the deal and if and when we can expect to see her series on the bigger small screen.

Tilzy.TV: So this is awesome. How long has Comedy Central’s development deal with MTSS been in the works?

Niko Hasler: Almost a full year.

Tilzy.TV: Who else will be working on the project? Are any cast or crew attached?

Hasler: Our original cast, though we will be looking for a few new faces. Guy Clark will still be directing and Jonathan Stern – of Wainy Days and Childrens’ Hospital fame – will be line producing.

Tilzy.TV: When’s the show going to air?

Hasler: Right now it is just a presentation. This means that we work hard, turn it into something televisable, and present it to Comedy Central to see if they want to take it to series. So far, based on their level of excitement about the show, I think they will love what we deliver. They’ll be reviewing everything in the fall.

Tilzy.TV: Will the show be any different if/when it’s on TV?

Hasler: It’ll be longer and we’ll actually have a budget, so Britney will probably have much nicer wigs to choose from.  We want to keep the shooting and editing style true to the web show, but with the longer format we’ll be able to add some exciting new elements. We’ve been trying out hand at different style of videos with the “Your Questions” and “Midwest Teenager Intercourse Program.”

[Editor’s Note: KoldCast TV began sponsoring Midwest Teen Sex Show in August of 2008 and provided the web series with a sizable budget by online video standards. Hasler will tell you if it had not been for KoldCast, the production of MTSS would have been in serious jeopardy late last year.]
