AC/DC Rock ‘N’ Roll Fannation is the latest project out of Producer-Director Saul Levitz’s lab – a Sony Music Entertainment production that is all about AC/DC’s elusive (and secret) October 26, 2008 show in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, where they broke their five-year concert hiatus for a mere 3,500 fans. However, it’s not just another concert documentary or Behind the Music wannabe; as the title indicates, Fannation is about the fans. Literally. They did most of the shooting.
The project started in September, when Sony started a contest aimed at locating the few high-profile AC/DC fans that would serve as the eight ‘caravan leaders’ – basically, the people around which the rest of the local rabid AC/DC fans would congregate in Wal-Mart parking lots across the country. About 200 people in total ended up in one of the caravans, which are fully documented in the first few episodes (along with ridiculous amounts of AC/DC merchandise and some rather awesome tattoos). From there, copious amounts of alcohol, karaoke, and rock ‘n’ roll ensue.
Three episodes out of seven have currently been released, with the next episode due out on Tuesday, April 14th, and the remaining four to be released every Tuesday after that on the AC/DC Rock ‘N’ Roll Fannation site.
