MySpace Wants to Be Your 'BFF'

Having found success on the original web series front with Roommates, Special Delivery and Married on MySpace, the 130-million-user-strong social networking platform launched its first game show with BFF.

The original series — created by Meryl Poster, former co-president of production at Miramax, and former fashion executive David Rubin — tests how well best friends know one another through a series of questions with prizes awarded after the “Would You Rather,” “Music Matters” and “Speed” rounds.

“MySpace users have been waiting for a snackable and social property like BFF, ” said Cristian Cussen, director of content and marketing for MySpace Video. “We’re very excited that our platform continues to bring brands and traditional media veterans together.”

Launched last Thursday, there are 20 episodes set for BFF, with new installments set to premiere twice a week through June 30. NBC’s Last Coming Standing

finalist Amy Schumer hosts the series, with episodes running three to five minutes at www.myspace.com/bff.

“We view this as a game show series rather than a reality series,” Cussen said. “ BFF is an effort to join the social experience and behavior already occurring on MySpace with compelling video content.”

Cussen added that producers Poster and Rubin created BFF especially for MySpace. “It’s really encouraging for our business that media veterans like Meryl are coming to MySpace to create new content,” he said. “They are each incredibly established, successful and respected individuals in the business and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with them on this project.”

During her 16-year stint at Miramax, Poster’s credits include The Cider House Rules, Good Will Hunting and Shakespeare in Love. She also cast Gwyneth Paltrow in her first starring role in Emma.
